Brian Curley · Schmit-Curley Design
Stone Quarry contains every wild-ride feature associated with the designs of Pete Dye, the mentor of the Schmidt-Curley team, as a tribute to his many great courses. A distinctive appearance is produced by rail-road car bridges, railroad tie sleepers, abrupt hills and moguls, lengthy sandy waste bunkers, and sometimes even little greenery. The race meanders through ancient volcanic quarry’s supported by steep rock walls and timbers, highlighting the dramatic nature of these structures. Ruins of earlier times can be seen throughout the striking terrain, such as coal wagons, railroad tracks, and abandoned mining machinery. The course is a welcome alternative to many of today’s lengthy courses because of its rather “sporty” style, which favors shot making over physical strength.
